Tues. Dec. 22, 2009:

Happy Holidays
from
Intrepid Sportfishing

Sat. December 19, 2009:    We returned this morning from our Avet / Larry Brown 11 day. Thanks again to our sponsors for a fun trip. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Harris Miller : 289.9 lb YFT...2nd Place..John Whiteside : 260 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Tom Hoskins : 246 lb YFT. We caught 14 over 200 and 26 from 130 to 190 lbs and lots of Yellows and school size Tuna. Pics will follow.... "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. December 18, 2009:    As we make our way up the line we stopped at one of our favorite Rock Cod holes and were treated with some surprise fat Yellowtail. There were some nice Reds and Lings added to the catch for some nice table fair as well. Re-cap of our time in Cow Town was three days spent on anchor with Giant fish putting on a huge show all around the boat with a few biters in there. Our first day was our best as we were alone and didn't have to split the school with any other boats. That afternoon the first boat came in and "perfectly positions" himself directly in our chum line off our stern. Day two brought in even more pressure and some wind to add to the scene. Day three was even more scratchy and had added pressure. Day four we spent on the inside chasing porpoise with good success. The total on big fish is 13 cows, 1 super cow, and 26 between 130-190 lbs. There are lots of Tuna in the 20-50 lb range as well. We have also added near limits of Yellows along the way home. Everyone is going home with at least one big fish and lots of others in the RSW Tanks to enjoy through-out the winter. We give a big thanks to Larry Brown and all our sponsors along with this fantastic group of anglers we have spent the last two weeks with. We had a blast the entire time with this group! The highlight of today however was in the Galley, with Chef Javier and J.J fixing us up with his "Brunch on the Intrepid". This was again a huge hit and a great display of gourmet foods. Everyone is absolutely stuffed with this awesome cuisine! Our ETA is 5:30 am tomorrow morning. We wish everyone A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS from the "INTREPID TEAM" "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. December 17, 2009:    We woke up this morning on the move North to a beautiful sunrise along the Baja coastline. Soon after we spotted some birds working and went to take a look and found a great grade of Yellowtail for the guys to pull on. These fish were all between 25-40 lbs! We caught them with all the methods one uses for Yellows. It was a good morning indeed. We are now working our way up the line once again with plans to stop a couple more times for some Yellows / Bass fishing before sunset. Our ETA is 5:30 am Saturday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. December 16, 2009:    We had an action packed day of fishing. All the yellows one could want were there for the catching and this group did just that. We even had a crew fish-off with a handful of the passengers switching roles with us. What a blast! While we were pulling on fish for hours we were treated with live music from the upper deck by J.J. It was a fun day. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. December 15, 2009:    We chose to look at a different bank today and hunt for a different school of fish that had less pressure on it than the one with five Long Range boats hitting the school. We had mixed results on the size of our Tuna today with fish from 40-60 lbs on some of the Porpoise we found and fish in the 160-240 lb class, being our biggest fish of the day, on others. In all it was a fun day with 61 Tuna landed and was a good change in the action for our group. We will start working our way up the line tonight and get in some fishing along the way. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. December 14, 2009:    Day three in Cow Town. Today was slower for us, as the weather has come up a bit with 15-18 knots of wind and a good swell to go along with it. We did manage to land a few more Cows and one that taped out at 303 lbs and two more under the 200 lb mark. That brings us up to 13 Cows, 1 possible Super and 26 between 140-190 lbs. We are now enjoying a Blackened Rib-eye steak prepared by Chef Javier and will be fishing again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. December 13, 2009:    Day two on the lower banks for us was a bit slower than yesterday. The fish are spread out now on the four boats that are here. We did get 5 more over 200 lbs, with Fred Best landing the biggest of the day at 274 lbs. We also caught more of the 150-190 lbers to go along with our Cows. We are catching more squid and getting ready for tomorrow. A couple of shout outs, Harris would like to say hi to Tarra, John Whiteside says hi to his beautiful wife Tish and Tom says hi to Lori and Alyssa. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. December 12, 2009:    Day one on the Lower Banks. Fishing was good for us today. We managed to get 5 cows and 14 more between 140-198 lbs. We had a handful of lost fish in the mix as well. Stand outs were John Whiteside with a 246, John Toninato with a 243, Kevin Cosca with a 221, Christopher Minnick with a 207 and Charles Pratty (recipient of Catch A Three Ride for Free from last year) with a 204 to round out today's cows. It was a fun day for us. We will be in Cow town for a few more days. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. December 11, 2009:    We found the action we were looking for again today. A nice grade of school size Yellowfin 25-40 lbs was just what we wanted for everyone to have some perfect RSW quality fish in the hold. Now that we have some good numbers for all, it's time to go hunting for some big ones. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. December 10, 2009:    We got exactly what we were looking for this afternoon. After two days of travel and seminars it was time to get some lines wet. We made it to the area were we wanted to start the fishing portion of this trip. The target this evening was Yellowtail, and Yellows we caught! In only two drifts we have put a great start together and are looking forward to the rest of our fishing adventure. The galley is loaded with fresh Yellowtail and some fresh school size Yellowfin Tuna for Javier to work his magic. Tomorrow we will be after more exciting action. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. December 9, 2009:    Traveling south with the wind and waves at our back on our annual 11 day Avet Reels trip. We have spent the day rigging and preparing for the fishing ahead of us. The weather is getting better as we travel down and hopefully will be in our favor for the week ahead. We would like to thank our sponsors for their support and donations for the trip starting with AVET REELS and SEEKER RODS. Also in the mix for this trip is of coarse Izorline, Owner Hooks, AFTCO, Braid Products, High Tide, Booya, AA plastics, Big Hammer, Baja Fish Gear, and Chuck Byron. We thank all of you for your support and Larry Brown for this trip with an amazing group of anglers. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. December 8, 2009:    The Intrepid returned this morning from a very tough 11 day trip with The International Cow Club. Thanks Scott for all of your support. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Ron Freeland : 193.4 lb YFT...2nd Place..Marc Schmidt : 157 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Michael Chapman : 106.6 lb YFT. We left again for 11 days with Larry Brown , Avet Reels and Salas Jigs. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. December 5, 2009:    Today our search for the Yellowfin Tuna continued. Our day started off promising with a few stops for smaller grade Tuna but we were seeing better fish on the machines. After a stop or two the guys started to get it and quite a few sinker rigs started going out with positive results. We landed a number of Tuna in the 90-100 lb range. We hit the schools hard stopping only when we just couldn't see any more. All in all it was a successful day. This group of anglers was an absolute pleasure to fish with and we can't wait to fish with each of these guys again. Thanks everybody. We are going to be home on Tuesday at 6 am ready to go at it again. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. December 1, 2009:    Boy, we were wrong about the weather coming down. We woke up this morning to wind, wind, and more wind. Late last night it really started to blow and hardly anyone got much sleep. Anyways, it goes without saying that the fishing was affected by it. Also, the water temp decided to drop another half degree early morning. We toughed it out for a few hours on anchor before deciding to make a move. On our way to our new destination we came across a school of common Dolphin holding school size Yellowfin Tuna. We played with them for a few hours before continuing on our way. It was a lot of fun experiencing some wide open action after the travel down and a slow day yesterday. We should be on anchor in the morning on a new spot to see what we see. Hopefully this move pays off with a new untouched body of fish. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. November 30, 2009:    Hi everybody, sorry for the lack of reports the last few days but we have been unbelievably busy with all the rigging and tackle jobs we have been doing on the way down. We have been cruising down to cow town since we left San Diego on the 27th. The weather was coming up but seems to be laying down now that we are here. We got to the lower banks this morning and dropped the pick a little before lunch. After that we spent the rest of the day soaking baits for not a whole lot. We did see just enough to make us stay put. Ron Freeland did manage to capture a real nice Tuna that measured out to just under 200 lbs. He caught it on a fly lined squid right after lunch. We like our prospects here and hopefully, with a little time spent on anchor the life will continue to build on us and with it, the Tuna will come. Talk to you tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. November 29, 2009:    Well, after two days of traveling and 10 meals we are now ready to go fishing. We will be hunting at daybreak...The International Cow Club passengers are very hungry for some big fish. Since we haven't fished yet we need to give a few shout outs to some families....Drew, Papa says hi, Illine Art says Hi, Hello Dede and Pam, Keith is doing well and says Hi. We will fill you in on the fishing in the next few days. "The intrepid Team"

Fri. November 27, 2009:    We departed this morning on our International Cow Club / Calstar / Accurate 11 day trip with great weather and are looking forward to more of the fantastic Tuna fishing going on South. You do not want to miss out on what's happening down below so check your schedule's and make time to get in on some of this. There are a few spots open on a few boats so come on down and go fishing. Tues. November 24, 2009:    Having a great ride up the line! Today we were treated by Chef Javier with a huge buffet spread of gourmet cuisine. We are currently making up new kite leaders and getting all our gear tuned up and ready for the next 11 day leaving Nov. 27th. Another special moment during our trip was the Sea Turtles adopting us as a floating home. One of the Turtles was tangled up in some old rope and plastic, so crewman Chad Smith jumped in and set him free. The Turtle could sense that he was there to help and was very docile during the release process. He swam away perfectly to resume his journeys. Looking back at our best day, if you can say one was better than any others as we had great fishing on all four days we had our school, Nov. 20th was exceptional, with Giant Yellowfin biting all day long for us. We had 2-6 going for the entire day. Many fish in the 130-180lb class, and many very large fish in the 260-350lb class pushing our anglers and gear to the limit. It was a great time and a very special trip for all of us. In the end we have 25 out of 26 anglers catching their personal best Tuna. Our E.T.A. is 8:00 am Wed. Nov. 25th. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. November 23, 2009:     What an atmosphere we got going on here on the boat. It's cigars and cocktails all around as the reflections of battles won and battles lost is the hot topic of the day. We had some very special moments this week during the bite, with crew members going all out to save every fish possible. One fish in particular got wrapped up on one of the stabilizer fins and a crewman jumped in and unwrapped the line only to have the fish wrap up on the sonar dome immediately afterwards. A second crewman jumped in and grabbed the line so that we could cut it and re-splice it on the other side of the boat. Our angler and all the passengers let out an enormous yell when the monster 280 lb Yellowfin hit the deck. Each and every crewman on this vessel works and fishes straight from the heart, it is very rewarding to work with them. Our sponsors also deserve a huge thanks and some very worthy credit for their fine products that handle these Giant Tuna with perfect performance. Avet Reels, Seeker Rods, Seaguar Fluorocarbon, Owner and Mustad Hooks, all helped in making this Epic catch. We hope you enjoy more photos of these Giants and will send more tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. November 22, 2009:    THE FISH OF MY DREAMS!!!! That's the phrase that was repeated over and over in the last few days, but today's fish is one we all dream about when it comes to GIANT YELLOWFIN TUNA. Charter master, David Choate caught the fish he has been after for a long time today. All of us here on the Intrepid are very proud to have been a part of it. Congratulations Wahoodad! As for our day, TWO MORE SUPPER COWS and several large cows to go along with half a dozen between 150-180 lbs! We are now on our way home and will report daily with lots of pictures and some amazing stories behind the epic battles fought over the last 4 days. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. November 22, 2009:    I have a couple of things to say about this trip. I was out on the Intrepid on the December 26th-January 5th trip this last year. On that trip, I hooked a fish that took 3 backups, and finally it chewed through, after a 3 hour battle. I thought that was it, my only chance ever at a fish like that. Then, I was fortunate enough to go again on the Red Rooster 3 with John Grabowski 3 weeks later. On my birthday on that trip, I got boiled on by the biggest tuna I had ever seen, and it cherry-picked my bait. Again, I thought, blew that chance! Never again. So, here we are again, and I did indeed get that 3rd chance. And this time I was able to overcome all obstacles, landing a very large Yellowfin Tuna, biggest one I've ever seen. Weight is only an estimate, not record shattering by any means. But a doggone good one. Next, it was a spectacular trip because out of 26 anglers, I'm pretty certain 25 of them have a personal best! We didn't all get cows or super cows, but we did an amazing feat in my eyes. I'm sure Kevin will have more to talk about on the way home. David Choate, AKA Wahoodad, Chartermaster

Sat. November 21, 2009:    GIANT COWS coming home on the Intrepid... We had another good day of giant Yellowfin Tuna fishing. The fishing was not as fast and steady as yesterday, but we did get some big ones.. We were fortunate to get another two SUPER COWS today. That makes four supers so far for this trip to go along with our 22 cows and many fish between 130-180 lbs! We will be here going for the giants again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. November 20, 2009:    WOW! This is absolutely incredible. We are having some of the best Cow fishing this writer has ever seen. All day long, you have a chance at a Cow, dream filler if you ask me. It's not like it's wide open, just a nice steady pick. Fly line bait or kite, both working extremely well. And the troops on our Willy Wahoodad trip? We are all getting along perfectly. I can't believe how unselfish our anglers are. This is a group who came from all different areas and walks of life, yet they are handing off fish to try and get everyone on the boat a cow. We are quickly approaching that goal! As charter master, that is something I have always wanted to have on one of my trips, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this one. The pics will be spread out over the next few days, and this is definitely one of those deals where pictures say a thousand words. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. November 19, 2009:    WHAT A DAY! We got things started at 4:30am this morning with BIG FISH hitting the deck.. Our bite lasted until 11am when things finally slowed down. It didn't take long to get on some more big fish, and the bite was awesome at times and lasted into the night. We caught some very large tuna today! We also caught a handfull of tuna below the 200lb mark. It was a good day for us. We will be back at it again tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. November 18, 2009:    Like yesterday, we did a lot of looking around to find our schools today. In the end we got on a nice bird school to get some action going on some nice grade Yellowfin. We did make a stop for some Grouper to break up the hunt a little around lunch time. We will be back at it again tomorrow and have high hopes for some cows.. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. November 16, 2009:    We are back out on our annual Wahoodad and Willy 11 day trip. After two days of travel and rigging we stopped on a spot along the way to break it up with some Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna action. We also hooked into one giant fish of an unknown type that swam away free in the end. We suspect it to be a giant Grouper, but we will never know. Our goal on this trip is Big Yellowfin Tuna and we will be spending our time on the lower banks fishing for them. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. November 14, 2009:    We returned today from our Rod Rack 10 day trip with Steve Volkers and the gang. Thanks for everything Steve. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Doro Torrado : 96.2 lb YFT...2nd Place..Todd Schneider : 95.4 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Jeremy Light : 94.6 lb YFT. Honorable mention goes to Bill Hall with his 98.2 lb Grouper. We departed on the WahooDad and Willy 11 day and will be headed South. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. November 13, 2009:    In looking back on the trip, it was definitely one of the tougher 10 day fall trips we have been on in quite some time. It seems we should have zagged when we zigged, and vice versa. We scoured the ocean for any sign we could see, but it wasn't time until the ocean was ready to let us reap some bounty. Our passengers didn't get upset at the lack of fish during those tough times, and they really appreciated when the fish rained on, which didn't happen frequently enough in this writer's eyes, but it is what it is. We just kept a good attitude and all hands up top scanning for some life. It paid off in a huge way as we finally found some willing participants to play along with us. The Porpoise, Birds and Tuna were really putting on a show. As the time started running out, we were able to look for larger Tuna, and our last stop was a lot of fun for crew and passengers. Of course, the wise guy looks up at Brook and asks :"Why didn't we come here first?" A tough trip, indeed it was. But we stuck it out, kept a stiff upper lip, and ended up with a true fall variety catch: Tuna, Dorado, Yellowtail, Grouper, Wahoo, and Marlin (all released). Most the passengers are talking about coming back for the same trip next year, so it feels like it was worth all the time spent looking. We had a great time, and it appears our patrons did too. ETA 7:30 am Saturday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. November 11, 2009:    We are beginning to make a habit out of this. After looking at many miles of water and seeing many non-biting fish right before the sun went down we found a good spot of breaking fish. When we pulled up the ocean came alive. 100 lb fish jumping out of the water all around us. We hooked quite a few but, due to the guys not quite being ready for what was happening, a lot of them got away. 30 lb. line doesn't quite do the job. When it was all said and done though, I think we did quite well, as you can see from the pictures. What a way to finish up an otherwise ordinary trip. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. November 8, 2009:    We made our move today. In the morning, it paid off with a few stops for some wide open Dorado fishing mixed with a few Wahoo. When we finally settled down and got to some serious Tuna fishing we were treated to quite a show. Yellowfin Tuna were jumping out of the water all around the boat, most of it from 80-130 lbs. We hooked a number of them , but due to various reasons quite a few escaped. We are going to give it another shot tomorrow in hopes of waking up to a bite and boating a large number of these things. The fish are here and we plan to be also. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. November 7, 2009:     We started the day with a wide open bite on smaller grade Yellowfin mixed with a few Yellowtail. The bite started around 4:00 am and lasted until about 11:00 am. After a couple days of traveling the yanking and cranking was a welcome change of pace. During this action a few anglers had the idea of dropping a live Bonito down to the bottom on a dropper loop rig. This was greeted on a few occasions with a sudden violent tug. On the other end of the line was grouper ranging from 25-70 lbs. Needless to say, not every one of these creatures hooked was landed. After we had our fill of catching and releasing the small Tuna fish, which I am happy to say, a lot of our passengers did, we pulled anchor and went looking for another catch. After a few hours of trolling around we finished up with a nice batch of Wahoo. Since we did not see the quality grade of Tuna that we were hoping to see today we are making a move in hopes of more action on a little bigger fish for tomorrow. We will let you know if our move pays off. Wish us luck! "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. November 6, 2009:    Today aboard Intrepid turned out again to be a mostly travel day. We did scrape out a little to keep from it being a skunk. While in search of floating objects, one thing is certain, we know where they aren't. That is part of fishing, finding out where they aren't is important as well. That said, we still had a great time. Hector and JJ kept us fed, fat and sassy. Tonight's dinner is Duck L'Orange, OUCH! We are still headed South to throw the anchor over and "hopefully" enjoy some lines over the side style of yanking and cranking. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. November 5, 2009:    Today was a travel day aboard Intrepid. We passed a few kelps early, but no one was home. A morning seminar and then we got to work on rigging for tomorrows fishing. Today was also spent enjoying the beautiful weather and Hector and JJ's fine cooking. Hopefully some pics in tomorrow's report. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. November 4, 2009:    We left this morning on our 10 day Rod Rack trip with Steve Volkers and the gang. Stay tuned for the reports. We have a few openings on upcoming trips so check your schedules and come out and have some fun with the crew of the Intrepid. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. November 3, 2009:    We arrived this morning from our 10 day trip with Stan Vandenberg and the Rod and Reel Radio group. We also had the pleasure to have Shea McIntee from Inside Sportfishing on board to capture the trip on video. Once again we would like to thank all the sponsors. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Sam Lewin : 94.4 lb YFT...2nd Place..Glen Ueda : 89 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Jon Watanabe : 88 lb YFT. Honorable mention goes to Mark Morello with his 71 lb Wahoo. We are enjoying a rare night in and will be back at it tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. November 2, 2009:     We stopped on the way up the line for some Cod fishing in one of our favorite spots. The fishing was slow, but the quality was there for us. We are enjoying an afternoon of entertainment once again from J.J and some blues.. We wish to thank Stan Vandenberg and "ROD AND REEL RADIO" for a wonderful trip. A special thanks to Inside Sportfishing and Shea Mcintee for their support once again. Awesome trip guys! All our sponsors, Avet Reels, Seeker Rods, Catchy Tackle, Salas Jigs, 5 Star Fish Processing, AFCO, M&M Custom Rods, Tady, Roboworm, Smitty Belts, PowerPro, Braid Products, Izorline, Jerry Brown Spectra, WFO, Anglers Choice Tackle, Ballyhoo, American Rodsmiths, and many more for the generous donations givin to this trip. We thank all of you!! "The Intrepid Team" ETA 7:00 am Tuesday morning.

Sun. November 1, 2009:    What a way to finish up! We picked the right place to hunt for kelps today. The action was good on both Big Wahoo and lots of Dorado. We found kelps all day long and kept bent rods going for everyone as we traveled northbound. All this action was after we stuffed ourselves on Javiers "Sunday Brunch on The Intrepid". It was a huge display of Gourmet Food, that consisted of King Crab Legs, Oysters in the half shell, Shrimp, Crab claws, Prime Rib, Beef stir fry, Chicken stir fry, Fried rice, Eggs Benedict, and an AMAZING display of pastries. Last night we were treated an hour long solo act of Blues Music by Chef James "JJ" Jordan and his great Guitar skills.. What a GREAT show! Thanks "JJ".. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. October 31, 2009:    We had a good day here at the Rocks. It was a steady pick all day long on nice grade Tuna and Tails. There was the surprise Wahoo at times to kick up the excitement for us. The weather backed off in a big way today and made for some pleasant fishing. Tomorrow we will be on the hunt for kelps as we make our way North. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. October 30, 2009:    We made it to the Rocks around 8:00 am and it didn't take to long to locate our spot and start hooking into some quality Tuna. The Wahoo and Dorado also made an appearance along with a few nice grade Yellows. The weather is on the windy side with around 10-15 knots and a little bumpy, but we are having fun regardless. We plan on sitting it out and fishing here again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. October 29, 2009:     After spending several days of looking at the Lower banks in these last two trips, we finally found a school of Cows. We made the long run down last night in hopes of finding some big fish and it paid off in the locating part of the hunt, they just did not want to bite. They did come up and boil around, but were not in a biting mood for us. Today we had some good action on Wahoo and school size Tuna. The weather has been up and I believe that is why the Giant Tuna we found did not bite. Tomorrow we will target some Quality Tuna and a mix of game fish for the rest of our trip.. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. October 28, 2009:    We spent the day on the hunt and trolling around in a few different areas. The catch was a mixed bag of Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, and a few nice Wahoo. Some of the fishing was on bird schools and some was on porpoise. Overall we had a fun day on the water with a great group of guys! Tomorrow we will be on the hunt once again. Wish us luck! "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. October 27, 2009:    We had a fantastic day catching Yellowfin, Yellowtail, Wahoo, and Big Bull Dorado. We picked our spot during the night to get the hook down, and we hit the mark on the money for today's action. The bite was as good as it gets from before daybreak until lunch time. After lunch we headed offshore on the hunt and it wasn't long before we found a dead Seal floating along in the current. Dorado and Wahoo were on the chew for us. It was full speed action on the Dorado and those who let the jigs sink out hooked up on the Wahoo. Tomorrow we will be on the hunt once again in a different area. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. October 26, 2009:    We spent the day offshore and south bound looking for kelps and anything floating that might be holding fish. We found some wood and some old kelp both holding Wahoo and Dorado for our taking. The day was fun and we caught what we were after. Tonight we will anchor up at our first destination and see what tomorrow brings for us. The weather is beautiful. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. October 25, 2009:    A day of seminars and rigging for the 10 day adventure ahead of us. We had two stops on big kelps today that gave us what we needed for Javier to provide us with some fresh Sushi and Sashimi along with enough nice Size Dorado for a Mahi dinner. Tomorrow we will be working our way south looking for more kelps and signs of life as we go. The King of Swag, Stan Vandenberg, kept us entertained with the gifts provided by the amazing amount of sponsors for this trip. We thank all of you for your support and generosity! "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. October 24, 2009:    BIGGEST FISH OF THE YEAR SO FAR! We returned today with a fine catch of big Yellowfin Tuna. We had some days of good fishing and some days of slow fishing, but overall it turned out to be a great trip. It was all smiles when we hoisted up the giants in front of Point Loma Sportfishing. We would like to give a BIG thanks to Catchy Tackle and Wayne Martin again for their sponsorship and all the great give aways and a fantastic trip. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Joe Arimitsu : 272.8 lb YFT...2nd Place..Richard Stokes : 245 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Bob Buckland : 242.4 lb YFT. Honorable mention goes to Mel Appell with his 264.8 lb YFT and Gary Gillingham with his 57 lb Wahoo. Fine job fellas. We left again on our annual Rod and Reel Radio trip with Stan Vandenberg and the gang. On a side note we would like to congratulate Intrepid owner Ken Price and his buddies for taking 1st Place at the Bisbee Marlin Tournament in Cabo San Lucas this week on the Mi Novia. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. October 23, 2009:    We finished up our trip with some Cod fishing. There were smiles all day long as we caught some nice quality Reds. Then it was time to clean up and head for home. All in all we had a good trip and are pleased with our catch. We would like to thank Catchy Tackle for their sponsorship of this trip and we look forward to doing it again next year. ETA 6:00 AM Sat. morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. October 22, 2009:    We had a fun, relaxing, enjoyable day here at Cedros Island. Being in the calm of the island was a nice change after the last couple of days in the wind blown heavy seas. The fishing for Yellowtail was on the scratch side, but we still put together a day of it. There were some stand out moments and some fun times had by all throughout the day. We are now on our way up the line for some Cod fishing tomorrow and home on Sat. morning. There are some very big Tuna to be weighed up in our holds!! "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. October 20, 2009:    After a bait making marathon last night, the macks finally floated around 3:00 am and we got all we needed. We spent the day chasing Wahoo and Dorado with some nice skin and flats for our efforts. We also landed a few nice Yellows to go along with the catch. The wind picked up today and the fishing was just o.k. The sign was good, but the biting was slow. Tomorrow we will target some Yellows along the beach. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. October 19, 2009:    Again today we found lots of life under some porpoise, but they were not in a biting mood. There were several different schools of Tuna hanging in the area we chose to hunt today and the signs are here for some good fishing in up-coming fall trips. In the end we saved our day with some Yellowtail , a few Dorado, and a couple of Wahoo for our efforts. We will be making bait tonight and then giving it another go tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. October 18, 2009:    We made it to the lower banks around noon today. The weather is beautiful and made for some good hunting conditions. We found lots of Porpoise schools, but only one of them was holding fish in the 40-50 lb range that were not eager to bite anyway. The day continued on that pattern until dark and after we had covered lots of water in our search. Tonight we will be heading north to look in a different area for hopefully better action. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team" Tonight's pic is of Mel Appell and crew member Dave Choate with Mel's giant Tuna.

Sat. October 17, 2009:    As we travel East and towards the Lower Banks the mood is great on the boat and everyone enjoyed a day off from pulling on big fish. We look back and are thankful we have patience to wait things out when conditions don't look so good. Our last evening and night bite at the Bank was awesome! One of our anglers caught a 270 lb Tuna on a PL 68!!!. As the Storm grows and has become a cat 5 hurricane we are pleased to be on the move and into a safer area for a couple days of hunting at the lower banks. We hope to find some good fishing inside and round out the catch. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. October 16, 2009:    Today was a good day here at the Bank. We worked hard catching flyers last night and it paid off today with some nice Cows. We also had a hit on the smaller grade, around 60-110 lbs, during the midday and some good ones again at sundown. With a good catch onboard and a storm spinning up down south we have chosen to make a move inside towards the lower banks for a couple of days of hunting. The weather remains excellent and everyone onboard is enjoying a fresh Ahi dinner. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. October 15, 2009:    We had similar action to yesterdays fishing, with a shot at the bigger fish in the morning and another shot as the sun went down. Today we did have a school of 80-120 lb fish come through that provided some fast paced fishing for a couple of hours. The Wahoo were on the smaller side and we trolled up one at a time for most of the mid afternoon. We will try for more flyers tonight and then try for some more big ones in the morning. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. October 14, 2009:    We had a fun day here at the Bank. The day started off good with the kite catching jumbo Yellowfin on the live flyers we caught last night. The big Tuna were keyed in on the flyers and we boated some really nice ones today. The action slowed at midday so we picked it up and started trolling around for Wahoo. The skin gave us some good action for a few hours before we put the hook back down and went back to Tuna fishing. Javier treated us to his Famous Wahoo Enchiladas for dinner. WHAT A HIT. We will be looking for more flyers tonight and doing it all over again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. October 13, 2009:    After all the preparation, rigging, and seminars, we finally made it to the Bank in the late afternoon today. We started out with a bang, hitting a 130 lb Tuna on the troll and then spent some time catching Wahoo before getting the anchor down over some good sign. It took a few minutes to get things started, but once the stage was set the big Tuna started to bite. We landed a couple of dozen beautiful fish before dinner tonight. Great way to start things off.. We will be here for a few days.."The Intrepid Team"

Sun. October 11, 2009:    We are still burning fuel headed South and breaking up the fantastic food that seems to be always coming out of Chef Javier's galley with more seminars and rigging. Wayne Martin of Catchy Tackle had a couple of tables full of give-aways for everyone to enjoy. We will be at our destination Tuesday afternoon and we will report then. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. October 10, 2009:    After a great nights rest we are busy preparing for the days to come. Seminars and rigging were happening all day today. The weather is nice and we will report later. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. October 9, 2009:    We returned this morning from our Ken Bush Custom Rods 7 day and unloaded a great catch of quality fish. Great fishing with all of you. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Miles Callison : 109.2 lb YFT...2nd Place..Harvey Rosen : 89.6 lb YFT and 3rd Place.. Kurt Suzuki : 88.8 lb YFT. Thur. October 8, 2009:    We finished off this Great Ken Bush Custom Rods 7 day trip with some quality Rock Cod fishing. We want to take this time to give thanks to all our supporters; Five Star fish processing, Salas Jigs, Aftco, Mustad, Izorline, Seeker Rods, Jerry Brown Spectra, Accurate Reels, Bloody Decks.com, and Bill Roecker Fishing Videos.com which provided many of our photos for the trip. We thank you all for your outstanding support and generosity for this special trip. WHAT A SPECIAL TRIP IT WAS! The wide open Dorado fishing to the 3 hour ripper of big Tuna to the all day bite on a beautiful grade of Yellowfin and onto the Iron fishing at Cedros Island, it was one of those trips were everything went as planned and the fishing was spectacular.. We thank you all! "The Intrepid Team" ETA 5:30 Friday morning.

Wed. October 7, 2009:    We had yet another good day of fishing here aboard the Intrepid.. It took a few hours to locate some life, but when we did it was good. The Yellows wanted the iron! Surface iron and the yo-yo iron was the ticket today. The surprise of the day was some 30-40 lb class Yellowfin that came through with some Porpoise. The Yellowfin were all caught on the surface Iron! What a Blast!! We had want we wanted by 4:00 pm and are now on our way up the line and hope to have a few hours to do some Rock Cod fishing before calling it a trip. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. October 6, 2009:    Good Evening : We are traveling up the line with a great catch and a great atmosphere on the boat. Our voices are all shot from all the hooting and hollering with the fun we have experienced in the last couple of days. This has truly been "ONE OF THOSE TRIPS" we all dream about. Everyone is sore from all the big Tuna they fought over the last 2 days. The weather for our ride is not bad and we will all get a good nights sleep tonight! We should arrive at the Yellowtail grounds in the early am. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. October 6, 2009:    EARLY REPORT : The Yellowfin charged the boat right at grey light this morning. What a show we had for the first half of our day. Big fish blasting on our baits and the kite until around 11 am when the conditions changed and the fish backed off. We have all we want on the nice grade of Tuna and will be moving off to wards the Yellowtail grounds for tomorrows action. Here are a couple of pics from the morning action. More pics and and evening report to follow. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. October 5, 2009:    WHAT A DAY! We had a day to remember here on the Intrepid. It was steady fishing for Yellowfin in the 60 - 110 lb class all day long. You throw in the occasional Wahoo to mix it up and you have a banner day..The weather is perfect with 5-10 knots of wind to keep the kites flying high. OH, The Kite, we made it through the rotation twice and then a few more before the sun went down. Top off a great day of fishing with a fabulous Yellowfin Tuna dinner from Javier, we will all sleep well tonight..We will be here again tomorrow before we make a move to fish for some Yellows somewhere up the line. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. October 4, 2009:    We continued on our southern coarse today with a bit of a west tack in order to avoid bad weather from the Tropical Storm Olaf. The results were great as far as fishing and weather goes. We found several large kelps again today that went WFO on the nice grade Dorado and some 30 lb Yellowfin again. With limits of Dorado we pushed hard to get to the Rocks before sunset. We made it in time to get some Wahoo and then got the anchor down over some good signs of life. The Tuna exploded for us for 3 hrs of non-stop action on a great grade of fish!! Day two of our 7 day and we have a great trip in the books already! We will be here again tomorrow to fish for more of these beautiful grade Yellowfin. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. October 3, 2009:    We spent the morning just like we planned it. We got into an area of very large kelps holding both quality Dorado and 30 lb Yellowfin Tuna. The action was good on the kelps for the first half of the day and then we continued south for the remainder of the day. The kelps were not there for us in the afternoon, but the fresh Mahi-Mahi dinner prepared by Chef Javier was all we needed to remind us of our good fishing during the first half of the day. We will once again be offshore tomorrow looking for more kelps and more good fishing. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. October 2, 2009:    Good evening. We left today on our Ken Bush Custom Rods Charter with nice weather and a wonderful group of anglers. The amount of swag brought on board by Ken and Miles Callison along with Bill Roecker and Paul Sweeny is mind blowing. Everything you can imagine is being given away or raffled off tonight. There are many Custom Wrapped Rods, New reels, and so many sponsors that gave away swag for the trip to name them all in one report would take several pages, so we will be giving thanks to everyone throughout the trip!! We are traveling down the line and will be offshore tomorrow looking for some kelp paddy action for our first day of fishing. With a storm in the southern region of Baja, we will be keeping a close eye on things before heading south to far. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. September 27, 2009:    We left yesterday with a great load of bait aboard and anxious Fisherman's Warehouse anglers are finally on their annual 6 day charter. A Big Thank You to our tackle rep's : Mark Haynes (Eagle Claw) for providing each angler with a selection of Laser Sharp Circle Hooks and Dale Hightower (Yozuri and Seaguar) for making sure we have Yozuri Hybrid Flurocarbon Line and Seaguar Flurocarbon Leader material for our anglers when the bite gets tough. In addition , John Bedwell is providing hats , 7 Strand crimping tools , Gamagatsu Live Bait hooks , Owner Ringed Mutu Circle hooks for each angler and bulk spools of P Line CXX line to use. After dinner a drawing was held and Antonio Lourenco from Half Moon Bay , Ca. was the lucky angler to win a Lamiglas Rod , rod cover and a Shimano Trynos 16 2 speed reel loaded with Yozuri Hybrid line. So with our tummies full from Chef Javiers dinner we are dreaming of the fun fishing in the days to come....PS...Uncle Rick says , "JoJo make sure you wish us Lots of Luck". Wed. September 23, 2009:    We had an excellent day of Yellowtail fishing today! It was full speed fishing on the first school we found this morning. The Yellows were eating everything that hit the water and providing some very exciting action for us. Once we had close to our limits we made a move inshore to look for the mossbacks. We found them in the same place they were holding for us last week and everyone was able to land several of the big Yellows. The Homeguards wanted the mackerel fly-lined on 40-50lb mono in 30-40 feet of water. What fun!! The weather is perfect, with flat seas and sunny skies and smiles all around. At Noon we headed offshore in search of kelps and some Yellowfin Tuna to round out the catch. Wish us luck " The Intrepid Team"

Tues. September 22, 2009:    The theme for this trip is without a doubt, Family.. We have three sets of father and son teams on board and one three generation team. What a special trip for all. There are also 7 people who have never been on a long range trip before. They have learned very quickly with the help of the crew and enjoyed a good day of Yellowtail fishing. There was also a handful of Yellowfin Tuna and a few Dorado to mix it up. Tomorrow we will be at Cedros to give the island a try for some Yellows and a nice night in the Lee. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. September 20, 2009:    We returned from our 6 day Newell / Hightower trip with great results. Thanks for a fun trip. We departed on another 6 day and are headed south. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. September 18, 2009:    We set out to target quality fish today, and quality we found. We got on a school of Jumbo Yellowtail and had some good fishing from mid morning until mid afternoon. The big Yellows made for a great day and everyone was able to land several of the brutes. After lunch we chose to do some drifts for Halibut and scored on the flats as well. We will be traveling throughout the night and fishing for some cod tomorrow before we call it a trip. Pictured here is Richard Hightower with one of our crew and a nice Yellow he caught today on his Newell 533 series reel and a Catchy Tackle "Banana Split" yo-yo iron. The fish ate the jig 10 feet off the corner with an eruption! What a show!! Also pictured is Tim Sellars and a Big Cedros Halibut. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. September 17, 2009:    Today was spent making our way northward searching for kelps along the way. As we got into a fishy zone the kelps produced good Yellowtail fishing with a couple dozen Yellowfin Tuna and a few Dorado for our day. It was a good way to break up the traveling. We made into the lee of Cedros just before dark and will enjoy a nice dinner and a good nights sleep in the calm. Tomorrow we will be on the hunt for a variety of species and then be making our way north once again. With a nice catch on board already we are having a blast with whatever we choose to do. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. September 16, 2009:    We had an action packed day here at the ridge.. Good times and good fishing is what its all about. There were many Yellowfin and Yellowtail caught today along with some nice sized ridge Wahoo and some big Groupers to round it out. The weather is on the bumpy side, but the good fishing makes you forget about it! We will be traveling up the line to fish in another area tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. September 15, 2009:    The action was a bit slower today, but we still kept some nice grade Alijos Tuna and Wahoo coming over the rail. The weather is picking up with the wind starting to blow around 8-10 knots. We will be heading off to the ridge for some closer to the beach action for our fishing tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. September 14, 2009:    What a way to start our trip! We hit a few kelps on the way here for some Dorado. We made it to the Rocks just after lunch and the Wahoo were here waiting for us. The fishing was good! We caught many nice sized Wahoo on both the jigs and a choice sardine on the wire leader. The Wahoo were in the 30-40 lb range with a couple of standout skin in the 50-60 lb range. The Yellowfin were also eager to bite and we made it through one kite rotation from 1:00 pm till dark. The live squid we caught last night worked very well on the nice grade Tuna. Charter master Richard Hightower from Newell Reels and Seaguar Fluorocarbon landed a couple of quality Alijos Skin today. Lets see what day 2 will be like for us!! Wish us Luck.. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. September 11, 2009:    ETA 6:00 am Saturday morning.

Thur. September 10, 2009:    As we travel up the line and tell the stories of the trip we were treated to an outstanding" Brunch On The Intrepid" by Chef Javier!! This was an awesome display of gourmet food and talent by Javier. The brunch included Crab claws, Alaskan King crab Legs, Seafood salad, fresh Hamachi, to round out the Seafood Tower portion. OUCH!! As Javier would put it... The Breakfast portion was of Bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, croissants, and pastries. Then there was this unbelievable dessert display!!! I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking, but to say the least, everyone was stuffed to the gills with this one. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. September 9, 2009:     WOW!!! Today was the day we all dream about. We caught fish from 4:30 am until dark! The fishing doesn't get any better than what we experienced today! Grouper, Pargo, Big Bull Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, put together a fantastic show for us at times.. We do not get to see the amount of life around a boat like we did today very often, but when you do it lets everyone know why we love this job so much! Every move we made throughout the day worked out and then some.. Everyone is tired and looking forward to a travel day tomorrow. With the RSW tanks full, we will look for some Rockcod to have for dinner on the way home. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. September 8, 2009:     With every day out here you see a change or something different than the day before. We woke to a new place today and the conditions were not good on the fishing side of things. The current was bad, and the wind from the opposite direction made for some uncomfortable fishing. We still managed some nice grade Yellowfin Tuna and a few more Wahoo before we headed out. We are now on our way East and will pick our spot around 3:00 am as to where we want to begin our day tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. September 7, 2009:    Today we enjoyed good fishing and good weather. We kept a couple of fish going all day long and ended up with a nice catch for our day. The Tuna were in the 50-70 lb range and the Wahoo were in the 40 lb class with a few bigger ones mixed in. There were flurries of action on the small Yellowfin and Yellowtail as well to keep things exciting throughout the day. We will be catching bait tonight and giving the Rocks another day. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. September 6, 2009:    We were blessed to find several nice kelps along the way again today. One of the kelps was a gold mine of Dorado. We caught lots of them, in fact we caught our daily limits from the one jumbo kelp!! It was WFO on nice sized Dorado. We then made it down to the rocks and had some good Wahoo fishing and a few Tuna in the 50lb class. We will be here again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Steady pick here at Alijos Rocks on Wahoo and nice grade Yellowfin Tuna in the 50-70lb class. The Wahoo have been the hot action though and they range from 30-50lbs. Pictured here is Charter Master Luc Ofield (from Anglers Choice Tackle) and father in-law Roger Hahne with a respectable Alijos skinny.

Sat. September 5, 2009:    Travel day with a few stops on kelps for some nice size Dorado. With the beautiful weather we were able to locate the kelps and break up the day. The quality is great and the dinner chef Javier has planned with the fresh Mahi sounds great as well. Tomorrow will be looking for more kelps as we travel southbound. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. September 4, 2009:    We are back from the 3 day open. It was great to have you guys and we hope will see you all next year. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Marcus Boutros : 98.2 lb BFT...2nd Place..Larry Applegate : 95.2 lb BFT and 3rd Place..Chris Ben : 93.8 lb BFT. " The Intrepid Team".

Thur. September 3, 2009:    Bottom of the ninth, two out, swinging for the fences. Got a hold of it. The day started slow and got slower. We left the area and went looking. Next thing you know we had Bluefin Tuna between 80-100 lbs. boiling around the boat. They wanted to bite and they sure did. We ended up with almost 20 of them and lost quite a few others. Lots of guys were throwing out their 30 lb. setups and not having a chance. When the guys started putting out their 50 and 60 lb. gear thats when they started hitting the deck. We are getting in tomorrow morning and turning around on an 8 day. See you at the docks. "The Intrepid Team" ETA 6:00 am Friday morning.

Tues. September 1, 2009:    We are back from the 3 day Taft Electric charter. What a great trip and we will see you all next year. Jackpot winners are 1st Place..Mike Brooks : 38.8 lb YFT...2nd Place..Randy Guest : 30.8 lb Albacore . We departed on a 3 day open trip and will report back. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. August 31, 2009:    Today was a success. We made the move to a different area and it paid off. We managed to catch a variety of fish on meter marks and kelps and it was a lot more consistent action than yesterday, which was what we were looking for. The fish we landed were Albacore, Yellowfin, Yellowtail, and Dorado. The action was, at times, fast and furious. The grade was a little smaller but it was well worth it. We are getting in tomorrow and doing it all over again. This time we will probably be doing something a bit different but nothing is yet written in stone. ETA 6:00 am Tuesday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. August 30, 2009:    We spent the day offshore fishing for Albacore. We woke up to fantastic weather and calm seas. The catching part of the day started early with a few jig stops for a few fish on each stop. It got better as the morning went on as each stop had more and more fish being caught. All the fun, however, came to a screeching halt right after lunch. The fish went down for their typical afternoon siesta. We kept hoping that they would reappear for the afternoon float that never quite showed up like we were hoping for. We did manage to boat a few fish late and had a good time doing so. Overall the day was a success but we will be looking elsewhere tomorrow in the hopes of a little more consistent action and a little variety. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. August 29, 2009:    We are back from the 5 day San Bernardino Sheriff's charter. What a pleasure to have you guys and we will see you all next year. The San Bernardino Sheriffs Charter was a riot to have on board and we cant wait to see them again next year. ETA 6:00 am Saturday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. August 26, 2009:    We had good action on Yellowfin at the big island today.. It was run and gun style fishing today on the breezers and Porpoise. The Yellowtail action was only fair during the night and morning hours. The Great White was on his game today and took a toll on the landing ratio of what we hooked up. The shark put on a very nice display for all to watch throughout the day! We will be offshore tomorrow in hopes that the Albacore stay on the chew for us. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. August 25, 2009:    We had a fun day here at Guadalupe Island. The Tuna fishing was scratch it out style but the Jumbo Yellows made up for that during the night. We caught some big Yellows last night and then again this morning and are now on our way back to the Tuna grounds. We will give this Island today and then move up the line for a couple of days off shore. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. August 23, 2009:    ETA 6:00 am Monday morning.

Sat. August 22, 2009:    The day started out with a beautiful sunrise and biting fish. The sun coming up over the horizon and hitting the rocks around the Lupe is a always a fine site, and then throw in some nice Yellowfin Tuna crashing baits around the boat and we have the perfect setting. We stayed on that drift for several hours and picked away at the nice grade Tuna. We then made a move in the afternoon that put us on more nice grade fish. The day was fun and ended the way it started, catching nice fish and having a blast while doing it. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. August 21, 2009:    We had a fun day here on the Intrepid with the Goldberg Charter.. We were the lucky ones who got on the right spot and had everyone hooked up on nice grade Yellowfin Tuna throughout the day. There were spots that did not want to cooperate, but you had to keep looking to find the right one, and when you did it was lots of fun and excitement for the gang. We had Tuna on the flylined baits, the balloon, and the kite today. In the evening we made our move in-shore and once again had wide open mixed Calico bass and Yellowtail in the shallows. We were getting Yellows in 20 ft of water! You could watch them eat your bait or jigs over the rocks and made for a well rounded day of fishing here at Guadalupe Island.."The Intrepid Team"

Thur. August 20, 2009:    We arrived at the island this morning and started to pick a few Tuna. After noon things had not changed much so we decided to try accomplishing one of Ira's goals which was to have a fresh Calico Bass breakfast. The Bass fishing was very very good and the Yellows bit good as well. We kept enough Bass for breakfast and released everything else. Tonight we will be at our Jumbo Yellowtail spot and we will report tomorrow how the night went. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. August 9, 2009:     We are on our way home with yet another fine catch of Yellowfin Tuna and Jumbo Yellowtails. The Intrepid Team never lets up and never quits and the results speak for themselves. The first couple of days were tough, but we kept at it and came away with a good catch. The passengers are HAPPY and content and as always looking forward to their next Intrepid adventure. Today we finished off the trip with three nice stops on school sized Yellowfin before we called it a trip. ETA 6:00 am. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. August 8, 2009:    We had a very nice day today. After last nights great Yellowtail bite, we backed it up with a good day on the Yellowfin Tuna. We started out of the gate with a porpoise school that gave up a nice drift on the Tuna, then got the anchor down and had a nice pick all day long on the good grade Tuna. The balloon was the hot ticket today, we also had some fish on the kite as well as the fly lined baits. Everyone is having a good time and we will give the night bite another try before we make our way north towards home. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. August 7, 2009:    It's been a tough couple of days here at the big island. Small hits on the Tuna in the morning and tough conditions, whether it is wind or current, or both, its been tough. That all changed for us last night however!! It took several anchor jobs to get in the right position with the wind and current fighting us all the way, but once we hit our mark, it was GAME ON with the big Yellows! They bit all night long and everyone got what they wanted out of it. We will be fishing tuna in the morning again and see were we go from there. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. August 5, 2009:    Back again from another very productive 5 day adventure. Tues. August 4, 2009:    We had a very special day here on the Intrepid. Today started out with some biting school sized Yellowfin, a few Dorado, and a couple of Bluefin off of a kelp. We had a jig strike around midday on school Yellowfin that went WFO. The small Yellowfin were mostly released with the exception of a few. The best part of our day was yet to come, as the afternoon rolled on we called it a trip, scrubbed up the vessel, and prepared for dinner. The dinner turned into our surprise party for Javier Quintanar's B-DAY. What a blast we had with Javier. Laughter and fun times all around in the galley. We all love ya Javier!!! The Intrepid Team ETA 7:30 am

Mon. August 3, 2009:    Another fun day here on the Intrepid. Sounds like a pattern! We had a blast catching Tuna in the morning and Tails in the afternoon. One of our fishermen brought a remote control boat with him equipped with outrigger clips and all. IT WORKED!! He hooked up on a large Yellow trolling a sardine. What a riot!! We put together a very nice day and have a great catch for our three days here. We will eat dinner on the hook, and then head offshore and home tonight and tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. August 2, 2009:    We enjoyed a fun day here at the island and with awesome weather we all worked on our tans throughout the day. The fishing was good for Yellowfin in the 30-80 lb class and we were able to get a nice hit on them. The evening was slow so we made the move to one of our Yellowtail holes and will try for another night deal tonight. Tomorrow we will be after the Tuna again in the morning and then go for some Bass in the afternoon. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. August 2, 2009:    Day two at Guadalupe has been productive on nice grade fish. We enjoyed a great night bite with many large Yellows being caught. Trip charter master Larry Brown shows off one of the big ones and the group as a whole had great fishing during the night. We are currently anchored over a nice school of Yellowfin and are having a good day with fish in the 30-80 lb class being landed. We are still hooking them at the moment and have a few hanging. Weather is good with a slight breeze to help the kite and cool things off for us. Will report again later. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. August 1, 2009:    We looked around the outside of the big island for some kelps in the morning for no luck and then made our way in around 11:00 am. The afternoon was very good on the big Yellows and some nice Yellowfin in the mix as well. Tomorrow we will fish for Yellows and then go looking in a different place in hopes of finding some Tuna that are willing to bite. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. July 31, 2009:    The Intrepid returned this morning from our 5 day Anglers Choice Tackle trip after fantastic fishing. Thank you Luc for a great trip. Here are the jackpot results : 1st Place.. Jim Kastorff..105.2 lb YFT , 2nd Place..Mike Moon..56.6 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Richard Bringgold.. 52.4 lb YFT.

Thur. July 30, 2009:    We drifted with our school until 11:30 am. The end result was a mixed bag of Tuna as the Bluefin school (20-45 lbers) turned into a few Albacore and some small Yellowfin that were released. What a way to end a great trip! We would like to thank once again Anglers Choice Tackle for their sponsorship and the wonderful group of anglers they put together for this 5 day trip. Going back to the awesome bite at Guadalupe for you readers, picture a wide open Albacore bite and replace the fish with Yellowfin in the 30-60 lb range. All of that after the first half a day was spent pulling on Jumbo yellows. The Great White made a showing yesterday and taxed one unlucky angler for a nice Tuna. We got an up close face to face as the shark came back and finished the meal right next to the boat. The big island remains to be one of our favorite places to visit. ETA 6:00 am Friday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. July 30, 2009:    As we start our last day of fishing in the offshore grounds one has to think that we are extremely lucky or maybe we have some skill and some fishing savvy here on the Intrepid. We chose to hunt in an area where we knew the fish would be migrating through. At 6:30 am we found our temp. break and began working that edge. Textbook results!! We got on a school of Bluefin Tuna at 7:00 am and are still drifting with them. The balloon is working well, along with a choice sardine on the flyline. Without another boat in sight or within 20 miles of us and beautiful weather. What a great way to top off an already great trip! We will report again later. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. July 29, 2009:    Today was a different day. We did manage to get on one school that hung around and bit for awhile, but nothing like yesterdays great action. There were many schools during the day on the meter, but they were not interested in coming to the surface. Tomorrow we will be at the lower Albacore grounds for a half day of fishing and then heading for home. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. July 28, 2009:     What a day we had here at Guadalupe Island. We thought that yesterday's Yellowtail bite was good until today. We started off with a great Yellowtail bite on jumbos that lasted until 1:30 pm. All the yellows were in the 30-45 lb range and we caught all we wanted. Then we made the move to the Tuna grounds and got on a school at 2:30 pm and put the wood to the 30-60 lb Tuna. I mean this was an OFF THE HOOK bite. Everyone was hooked up full speed for the rest of the day. We still have a few hanging at the moment. We thank Ken Franke for all his hard work in getting the permits back for the fleet. We are going to stay put tonight and fish Tuna again tomorrow, as we are pretty much done with the big Yellows for this trip. WHAT A DAY here on the Intrepid!!!! "The Intrepid Team"

Here it is 9:00 pm and we just landed our last fish, also the biggest of the day!! Jim Kastorff waited until everyone was eating dinner to land his first 100 lber. Thats right folks, 100 lber at the Lupe on the Intrepid.

Mon. July 27, 2009:    We are having a blast again on the Anglers Choice Tackle sponsored trip. We have some really nice grade Yellowtail and a couple dozen Yellowfin Tuna for our day. We will be hunting around in the same location again tomorrow and hope to get a repeat of our day today. Wish us luck!! "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. July 26, 2009:    We docked at 7:30 am this morning and after unloading our catch, here are the jackpot results : 1st Place.. Joseph Horvath..43.8 lb BFT , 2nd and 3rd..Glen Kennedy and John Patrick Normoyle were tied with 42.4 lb BFT. Thanks again for a great trip. After replenishing our supplies we are headed South once again with our group from Anglers Choice Tackle..Reports will follow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. July 25, 2009:    Another fun day on the Intrepid. Today was fun in a different way, as we chose to go kelp patty hopping around the ocean. We were rewarded with big bull Dorado and nice grade Yellows for our efforts. We found a spot of porpoise and picked up Yellowfin on the jigs as a bonus. We want to thank The Rod Rack and BloodyDecks.com for their support and a fun trip all around. Our E.T.A is 7:30 am Sunday morning. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. July 24, 2009:    We had fun today! We got on a school of Bluefin around 10 am and they stayed with us until 5 pm. Around 3 pm the bite turned into a mixed bag of all three Tunas. You didn't know if you were going to hook a Bluefin, Yellowfin, or an Albacore. There were also bonus Dorado in the mix. After 5 pm we took off for the Albacore grounds and got a few late evening jig strikes along with some bait fish to finish off the day. Today's pics are of co-chartermasters Glen Nakazono from the Rod Rack Tackle and Marcus Chua from Bloody Decks.com with nice grade Bluefin Tuna caught today. Many first timers caught their first ever Blue Tuna today. Smiles and happy fishermen all around. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. July 23, 2009:    We had a great day of Albacore fishing today. It was hit and run style fishing for us, as we would get a jig strike, meter or sonar mark, catch some Albies and then run and get on them again. At times we would get everyone hooked up and the controlled chaos would add excitement to the fishing. We have many first time Long Rangers on board this trip including John Patrick Normoyle pictured here with one of the many nice grade Albies we landed today. The smile says it all!! "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. July 22, 2009:    Yesterday was on the slow side for us. We took a look at the area we were fishing on the last trip and found that the Albacore were not responding. We then ventured into a new area and found a few fish to put in the hold. These were nice grade Albacore in the 30-40 lb class. Action was not hot, but we made a day of it. Today we are in a new area and have started off with a Bang, we got on a school just at gray light and they are biting well for us. We are looking forward to the rest of the day, as the conditions and sign are looking good. Wish us Luck!! "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. July 21, 2009:    The Intrepid returned this morning from our 4 day Western Outdoor News trip. Thanks again to Pat McDonald and his group for a great trip. Jackpot winners : 1st Place..Thomas St Pierre..47.2 lb YFT , 2nd Place..Ken Ross..46.4 lb YFT and 3rd Place..Walter Elizalde..41 lb YFT. We are outbound on our Rod Rack / Bloody Decks 5 day after topping off our bait supply so check back for reports. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. July 20, 2009:    We had a fun filled day on the tuna grounds. There were stops of mixed Albacore, Bluefin, and Yellowfin. We also had a few ripper stops and the excitement level was high. We are now on our way home with a nice catch of quality sized Tuna. The nice thing is the overall size of the fish, very few small tuna in the well. The Bluefin and Yellowfin were in the 40lb class and the Albacore were solid 25-30 lb average fish. We would like to thank Western Outdoor News and Pat McDonald for their support and a very enjoyable trip. See you next year!! "The Intrepid Team" ETA 6:00 am Tuesday morning.

Sun. July 19, 2009:    Today was a better day for us here on the Intrepid. We put together a nice day on the Albacore and had some quality Bluefin Tuna and Yellowfin Tuna up to 50lbs in the mix. The weather is nice and getting better all the time. We will be in the area again tomorrow and reports will follow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. July 18, 2009:    The weather was up and the fish were down! You know how it goes. We did manage to scratch out a day here on the Tuna grounds and the weather is getting better by the hour. We hope to have better fishing tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. July 17, 2009:    We left today on our Western Outdoor News 4 day charter with W.O.N Rep. Pat McDonald on board. We have a nice load of bait and high hopes the Albacore are on the bite when we arrive tomorrow. The trip is already a score for many as Pat brought along many gifts and swag to raffle off to everyone. We will be giving a tackle seminar later today and then settling in for a comfortable ride to the Tuna grounds. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. Morning July 17, 2009:    The Catchy Tackle 6 day trip returned this morning with a great catch of Yellowtail, Albacore and Bluefin. Thanks Wayne for a wonderful trip. Jackpot winners : 1st Place..Bob Buckland..31.4 lb BFT , 2nd Place..Darlene Corey..24.2 lb Albie and 3rd Place..Grant Melander..23.8 lb YT. Here is a pic of a 38 lb Escolar ( Oil Fish ) caught by Ryan Steele. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. July 16, 2009:    We finished up with a bang!! The day started off on the slow side as far as catching goes. We were seeing lots of fish but they were just not ready to bite yet. Around noon that changed in a big way. We started getting jig strikes with a few bait fish mixed in with each stop. At 1:30 we had our best and last stop of the trip. The Albacore came on strong and we finished up our trip with that last stop and are now headed home. We would like to thank Wayne Martin and Catchy Tackle for a GREAT trip and a fine group of anglers to share the week with on the high seas. "The Intrepid Team" ...ETA is 6:00 am Friday morning.....

Wed. July 15, 2009:    We scratched out another day on the Tuna grounds. There are still lots of schools of fish in the area and outside the area, but they do not want to bite very well. We managed to get another 40 Albacore and a Bluefin along with a handful of Dorado. Last night while making squid we had a school of nice Dorado charge the boat and create some exciting action. Our bonus catch for the night was a 38lb Escolar( or oil fish), caught on a squid and sinker rig. Tomorrow we will be in this area again in hopes that the Albacore will bite a little better than today. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. July 14, 2009:    WOW!! What a day we had here at Cedros Island. We got on a school of Yellowtail that stayed with us for five hours on the drift. The Yellowtail bit everything, but the big mackeral were the ticket if you wanted a bigger size fish. We finished up with limits of Yellows and are now on our way back up the line to fish the Tuna grounds for the last couple of days of this already fantastic 6 day Catchy Tackle Charter. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. July 13, 2009:    We enjoyed a beautiful Summer day here at Cedros Island. The weather was picture perfect, far better than the offshore scene, and the fishing was good. We found several schools of Yellows and had fun catching them in a number of ways. Tonight we will anchor in the lee of the Island and catch some bait for tomorrows fishing. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. July 12, 2009:    We worked hard at it today and managed to scratch out a nice day on the Tuna grounds for our Catchy Tackle Group. Everyone was able to land some good grade Albies and are enjoying a smooth ride down swell for the rest of the night. Tomorrow we will be fishing for Yellows. Here is of Brook and Darleen with one of the better grade Albies for the day. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. July 11, 2009:    The Intrepid returned this morning at 6:00 am from our 6 day 976Tuna / Larry Brown trip. Jackpot winners : 1st Place..Sang Vo..37.2 lb YT , 2nd Place..Mark Liebrecht..20.2 lb YT and 3rd Place..Chris Pollack..18.6 lb YT.
We departed at 11:00am with Wayne Martin and the Catchy Tackle group for a 6 day . We look forward to some better fishing. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. July 8, 2009:    We started the day with a bang. We continued fishing the same place we did yesterday after we checked out a different area and were discouraged before we even got a line wet. After we set up the action was fast and furious once again. We boated quite a few nice fish before we left at noon. We had our fill and are anxious to give the Tuna fishing another shot. The second half of the day was filled with jokes and laughter as our fishermen are happy and content. We will let you know if we get onto something tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Tue. July 7, 2009:    Today our luck changed. We had a very good day fishing for Yellowtail. In fact it was one of the better bites this crewman has seen in quite some time. Everybody is tired and sore but in very high spirits. The only thing that slowed the action down was the loss of participation. It turned from fishing to cocktail time in a matter of minutes. Today the hot stick belonged to Mark Liebrecht. The man was hooked up all day long. Our biggest fish today went to Sang Vo with Lynne Ballew once again right there in the running. Both were right around 40 lbs. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner of Veal Chops preceded by an awesome Lobster Bisque sitting on the anchor sheltered by a beautiful island. Tomorrow we are hoping for more of the same before we venture offshore once again in search of the elusive (this year anyways) Longfin Tuna. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. July 6, 2009:    Well we looked at a lot of water today. It was all beautiful but lacking one thing, Fish. We did manage to catch a nice dinner that Javier is going to prepare tomorrow for our enjoyment. We also released quite a few fish that our sportsmen on board determined were too small to put a tag on. Tomorrow we are going to change it up a bit and try our luck at an island. Our big fish today was landed by Lynne Ballew. She also has a message for her daughter: Hi little Gorgeous. I continued your and Grandma's tradition of landing the first keeper fish. I love you. We will talk to you all again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. July 5, 2009:    The Intrepid returned this morning from our 8 day Mike Shirer trip. It was a pleasure having all of you and hope to see you again soon. Jackpot winners : 1st Place...Al Gardner...110.6 lb YFT... 2nd Place...Mike Shirer...83 lb YFT and 3rd Place...Jesse Drake...72.2 lb Yft. Today we are officially starting our summer season. We left today on a 976-TUNA / Larry Brown 6 day charter. We are going searching for the elusive Longfin Tuna. We will report tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. July 4, 2009:    Happy 4th of July to everyone!! Our ETA is 6:00 am Sunday morning.

Fri. July 3, 2009:    Yesterday was mostly a travel day for us, but we did stop on a couple of kelps for some small Yellows which were all released. We continued to make our way East towards the coast so that we were in position to look for some better grade Yellowtail today. This morning started out slow as it took several hours to locate a school, but once we found them it was good fishing for nice grade Yellows. They were biting everything! Surface iron being the most popular way to hook-up, but many had a fun time with the yo-yo iron and bait with a sliding sinker rig . We are now traveling North to be offshore for our last day of fishing on this 8 day trip. What a blast it has been with the Mike Shirer group on the boat!! "The Intrepid Team"

As we travel up the line we are enjoying an afternoon snack prepared by chefs Javier and J.J of King Crab legs, Crab claws and some fresh Ceviche. MMMMMM what a treat!!!

Wed. July 1, 2009:    We had a great day catching nice grade Tuna and Tails. Our morning bite was all large Yellows and provided some exciting action on the jumbo's. Tonight we are moving off to another offshore area in search of kelps and other types of fish to add to our catch. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. June 30, 2009:    We scratched out another day of fishing here at the Rocks. The fish are spread out and on several boats, but we still managed to catch some good grade Yellowfin and some nice Yellows as well. The yo-yo jig was more productive on the nicer grade Yellows today and provided some fun for the anglers who worked at it. We will be making a move tonight to target some bigger Yellows. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. June 29, 2009:    We had a good day fishing once again here at the Rocks. The Tuna were not as numerous as last trip, but the quality is the same. We also had a very good day of Yellowtail fishing with many choosing to release their Yellows. It is so good to see that there are people who wish to preserve fishing for future generations. Everyone tagged a few and kept the standouts, but released anything on the smaller side of the scale. Weather is good and we are going to stay here for at least another day. Pictured with the Yellowtail is Peter Thomson, a first time long ranger, and he wishes to say Happy B-day to Stef...Also pictured is Mike Shirer and one of the nice tuna he caught today.. "The Intrepid Team"

Sun. June 28, 2009:    We turned around yesterday and departed with the Mike Shirer group. After relaxing, rigging, tackle seminars, and preparing for tomorrows fishing we are pumped up and excited to see what the Rocks have in store for us this go around. Everyone enjoyed the days in various ways and stuffed ourselves on Javiers fine cuisine. Our E.T.A for Alijos is 7:30am. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. June 25, 2009:    We took a look at a different area as we made our way up the line. We found some very good water and good conditions, but the fish were a no show for us, so at noon we continued traveling towards home. Tomorrow we will be looking around for some Albacore or Bluefin to finish off our trip. Today's pics are more from the rocks.. "The Intrepid Team"

Wed. June 24, 2009:     We had another good day here at the Rocks. We were able to keep 1-3 fish going all day. The difference today was that our evening flurry never came, so we pulled anchor and are headed up the line towards home. The weather report is good and our hopes are high for some more action on the Albacore and maybe a few Bluefin to round out the catch. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Tues. June 23, 2009:    We had a GREAT day of fishing here at the Rocks!! We landed many nice Yellowfin and Yellowtail throughout the day. Our morning started off with a good Yellowtail bite with fish in the 20-40lb range and lots of released fished under the 20lb range as well. The Yellows were biting the dropper loop, yo-yo iron and the flylined sardine. The bigger sized Yellowfin made a good showing for us all day long. Most of the fish were between 40 and 50lbs with a couple of handfuls of fish in the 70-110lb range. We made it through the kite rotation three times today! Book a trip now!! Many boats are finding great fishing in different areas and the albacore and bluefin are within 1 day range of San Diego, so book today!! "The Intrepid Team"

Mon. June 22, 2009:    We had a fun day of Yellowfin Tuna fishing!! We were able to keep 1-4 going throughout the day and went through the kite rotation twice. The grade of fish is 30-50lbs with a few standout fish in the 70-100lb range. The evening provided some exciting action as the fish charged the boat and everyone was hooking up just off the stern. The Yellowtail also bit better for us yesterday and we will make a move tonight to target the Yellows. We also landed 4 nice Amberjack yesterday with the largest going 60lbs! "The Intrepid Team"

Art Coleman would like to say hello to his beautiful wife Patricia...

Sun. June 21, 2009:     Happy Fathers Day!! We arrived at the Rocks just before lunch and got the anchor down over some good signs of life. It took a couple of hours to get them going, but once the current switched so did the action. We spent the last 4-5 hours of the day with great action on the 30-50lb Yellowfin and some nice grade Yellows mixed in as well. There were times when we had 8-10 going and the kite was getting the job done in steady form. We will be set up for tomorrow!! Today's picture is of father and son team Robert Fowkes and son Robert Jr. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Sat. June 20, 2009:    We were fortunate enough to catch some Albacore for dinner today. The sign of life in the area is very promising and we will be looking at this again in a few days. We should arrive at the Rocks after breakfast tomorrow. Wish us luck. "The Intrepid Team"

Fri. June 19, 2009:    We are back on the water again with our Seeker Rods / Bloodydecks .com trip. The weather is perfect and the fun has started!! We are currently heading south towards the Rocks and will be looking for whatever gets in our path tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"

Thur. June 11, 2009:     Good afternoon from the Intrepid Team. As we put the final touches on the boat, we are very excited about the upcoming trips and the season in front of us. The fishing at The Rocks has been kicking out some very nice Yellows and Yellowfin for the spring season and conditions look to be set for a banner summer. Offshore has shown some good signs of Bluefin schools moving in along with some scattered Albacore in the mix. We have a few openings left on our Seeker/ Bloody decks 8-day trip leaving on June 19th. There are also some spots left on our July trips, so if you want to get out and catch some good quality Tails and Tuna give Carol a call and book today! 1-888-686-7827

Thur. May 28, 2009:    Here are a few pics from the Catalina Charter.

Fri. May 22, 2009:     We are out on the water again with the Seacrest Developers Charter. What a fun group to have on board!! Currently we are anchored up in the lee of San Clemente Island enjoying a fabulous New York steak dinner prepared by Javier and J.J Jordan. Tonight we will be making some squid for tomorrows fishing and moving up to Catalina. "The Intrepid Team"

We have openings on our annual Seeker Rods 8-day to Alijos Rocks on June 19th. If you want to go after trophy Yellowtail that the Rocks are known for at this time of year, this is the trip to be on!! Recent trips to the Rocks have already given up good counts on the Yellows along with some quality Yellow fin. Joe Phister will be the charter master and as always there will be some great give aways and prizes to be won. Join us on board the Intrepid for what will be a very fun trip!!!

Sat. May 16, 2009:    Morning report from the Intrepid..We are enjoying some fun Yellowtail action on the kelps 80 miles from Point Loma. We have 25 Yellows for the day and are on the hunt for more. The water is clean and 64.5 with plenty of kelps to fish.

Final report...We had a very enjoyable day on the water. The Iron Products group was a blast to have on board and did a nice job pulling on fish all day long. The kelps were thick for us today, and the Bonita and Yellows provided some furious action at times. With the water conditions looking as good as they are, we expect the Tuna to explode any day. We found several spots of breaking Tuna, but they were not interested in our offerings. With this sign of life and conditions being what they are, I would not hesitate any longer in booking a trip to get out on the water. The "Intrepid Team".

Tue. May 5, 2009:     We are all looking forward to another great season and with that comes some TLC above the waterline and below as well. With our haul out half way complete we will soon be back in the water putting the finishing touches on the Intrepid. It's time to go fishing so check your schedules and find a date that you can go. We look forward to seeing you. "The Intrepid Team"
